How to make a custom mouse pad with your own photos

This article explains how to make a custom mouse pad with your own photos. If you want a custom made tool that is not found in stores, this is the guide for you. I will walk through all the steps from start to finish including, cropping images, image manipulation and even adding text if desired.

Create custom mouse pad:

1) The first thing we need to do is choose a size of custom mouse pad that we want to make 4 “x 5 “, 5″ x 7″ or 8″ x 10″. There are some custom mouse pads with different sizes available but these are probably going to be the most common ones that people will use. You can also go with something custom like a 3 1/2″ round mouse pad.

2) The next step is to gather your images. If you have a design or photo that you want to use, great! If not, there are some free online tools that we can use to create custom designs. For this tutorial, I’m going to be using the online tool, Canvas.

3) Once you have chosen your size and your images, it’s time for the cropping process. This is probably the most important step so take your time and make sure it looks good. You will want to crop each image to the correct size and make sure there is enough space around the edge for the stitching.

4) After cropping, it’s time for the fun part… adding text or other graphics. This is optional but can really add some personality to your custom mouse pad.

5) The final step is to save the image as a PDF and then upload it to a mouse pad company’s website. I have included a few links to some popular companies below.

This custom mouse pad tutorial goes out to all of you bored office workers who simply can’t find anything decent on the web to get your giggle on.

This custom mouse pad article will show you step by step how to put that extra “Oomph” in your custom mouse pad.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

This custom mouse pad tutorial requires the following items. If it is not included, make sure to add it or else this custom mouse pad project will not turn out well at all.

Required Materials: – your favorite digital images – standard computer mouse – cutting blade (knife, box cutter, etc.) – glue stick (the more pliable variety) – old piece of cardboard for hard backing (cereal boxes work great)

Step 2: Pick and Resize Your Photos (Optional)

You can use any digital images that you like for this custom mouse pad project. I recommend using at least two or three photos that complement each other in some way. For my custom mouse pad, I chose a picture of zombies from the movie “28 Days Later” and another of a group of people on a roller coaster ride which is meant to represent the ups and downs we all face every day. Another thing you must do before gluing down your photos is to resize them so they fit in your custom mouse pad without printing outside the lines. After opening up both my chosen images in Adobe Photoshop, I selected Image > Image Size which brings up the following window.

Step 3: Printing Your Photos

Once you have resized your custom mouse pad images, print them out on standard photo paper then cut them down so they are only about 2-3 inches wide. Custom mouse pad custom mouse pad custom mouse pad

Step 4: Template Time

After cutting our my custom mouse pad photos so they would fit in the width of my custom mouse pad, I now needed to create a template to help me place each photo where I wanted it.  The easiest way to do this is with an old piece of cardboard that will still give you decent feedback when you run your hand across it but is not too rough on the skin. To create the custom template, place your custom mouse pad on top of the cardboard and trace around the outside with a pencil or pen.

Step 5: Start Gluing Down Your Photos

Now that you have your custom template in hand, it’s time to start gluing down your photos. I found it easiest to do this one photo at a time. Make sure that you put enough glue on the back of each photo so that it will stay in place when you stick it to the custom mouse pad.

Step 6: Finishing Touches

Once all of your custom mouse pad photos are glued down, take your old piece of cardboard and cut it to fit the backside of your custom mouse pad. Next, take your glue stick and apply a good amount of adhesive to the custom mouse pad backing.

Conclusion:

Then there’s nothing left to do but sit back and enjoy your new personalized custom mouse pad!
